The establishment of CLSANA not only results from the academic efforts of Chinese legal studies team, but also answers the call of reform and opening policy in China. Law is going to play an increasing important role in the 21st century with the rapid development of globalization and intensified international competition. Law permeates every aspect of our lives - or does it? Legal scholars have long debated and discussed what we call the "reach" of law - the impact of law in a globalized world, the extent to which law regulates social and economic life within and across borders, the promulgation of law and legal systems and other developing societies, and the significance of law in everyday life. There are still many systems expected to be established or improved, among which the legal system has the utmost importance for the country's development.
CLSANA aims to promote the academic communication in Chinese legal studies and education, which includes hosting an annual international symposium, publishing collections of papers and books, and organizing various forms of forums, lectures and cooperated studies. We will organize Chinese legal studies projects, common law training programs and international study visits for legal scholars, lawyers and other legal practitioners, as well as business leaders. We will also provide information about law to the academic and business world of North America and other countries. We will provide legal consultancy to companies and research institutes and invite leading western legal scholars and lawyers to visit and lecture in China. Generally speaking, CLSANA will take an active part in development and promote the communication between China and the West. In addition, CLSANA will provide useful information to our members to facilitate their academic and career development. Since 2000, CLSANA has successfully conducted a series of cooperated research and training programs.
Worth particular noting is the active flow of legal scholars after completing their study and work abroad. These scholars are playing an increasingly important role in the modernization of Chinese law. The Association keeps them closely involved in its activities. The CLSANA annual meetings elect its six-member Board of Directors, a President, and a President-Elect. In addition, we are inviting many senior advisors who are prestigious in the arena of academic study, legal practice, government and international affairs, whose advice has largely benefited the development of CLSANA.
As we look ahead, we have a firm belief in CLSANA' importance in the development and the legal research cooperation. We welcome all legal scholars, lawyers, students in the field of and related fields to Chinese law, and anyone in any countries who is interested in law to join CLSANA. We encourage our members to help promote law reforms in China, with their knowledge and experience of law.
